Is there a flatbed scanner with ADF which can produce heavily compressed PDF files?

As far as I'm aware, there's no scanner that will do what you want without using 3rd party software. You'll need to scan the documents as text files ... unless they're actually pictures .... so that you can save them as files which can then be converted to .pdf.

My new scanner came with an ADF pad but the instructions don't say what it is or where to put it?

I have a strobe 500 visioneer. This little part came with it but I don't see anywhere to connect it to the scanner. The instructions show the part but that's it. Nothing about what it is or what is for or where it goes. Please tell me how to get the cover off?

The ADF pad is a replaceable part of the automatic document feeder (ADF). It's purpose is to allow only one page at a time to feed into the scanner when you have multiple pages stacked. On page 98 (PDF page #105) of your User's Manual explains how to replace it, along with illustrations, when it is worn out. The previous pages explain how to clean it from time to time. This is an excerpt about it from the manual: "REPLACE THE ADF PAD ASSEMBLY The ADF pad will wear out and is designed to be a user-replaceable part. Problems with documents feeding into the ADF is an indication that the pad is wearing thin. You received a replacement pad in the original scanner box, and you can also order a new one. See the “Visioneer Strobe 500 Scanner Parts List” on page 110 for ordering information." Hope that explains it. Best of luck.

Whats the best Printer and ADF(auto feeder) scanner for mobile lifestyle?

I am looking for small printer and scanner combination while I am travelling. This plus eFax and I am all set for travelling the world and working remotely. Here is what I am looking for from this printer/scanner combo: - small weight and size to save space in the luggage - double-sided scanning - ADF scanning: meaning I should be able to put at least 10 documents in the tray and they get scanned automatically - color scanning and printing I looked at following: http://www.cyberwalker.com/gizmos/canon-bjc-55.html (this one has scanner but it's not ADF) http://www.fujitsu.com/us/services/c...snap/s300.html (only scanner) I am able to find mini printers or ADF scanner but none of them are combined. Cheap but good document (adf) scanner?

I need a scanner with a document feeder. I bought a scanjet on ebay with an adf and it absolutely sucks, there's like 50 things that go wrong randomly. It shouldn't be that hard to make a scanner that actually works, there are printers that feed documents perfectly, but scanners seems to have all sorts of problems with feeding. Anyway I don't need color, high resolution, or anything other than at least 300 dpi b/w scanning, and a document feeder. It doesn't even have to be fast. But it has to work. People always say "get a scansnap" but I look on ebay and even the broke ones go for over $100. Anyone know of anything that can be bought used in working condition for under $100 that does simple document scanning with a feeder, and doesnt break every 2 seconds?

It is going to be tough to find a reliable ADF based scanner for under $100. The problem you will have is the reliable ones won't break and typically cost around $500 or more to start with. If you can live with simplex ie one sided scanning, try the Plustek PS281. You can find a new one for around $200. A relatively inexpensive ADF scanner is the Plustek AD450. These go for about $230 and it is duplex. It is a lot slower than the PS281. If you can spend about $300, look at the Plustek PS286+. All of the plustek scanners have TWAIN drivers which means you can use them with any scanning program. You can't do that with the scansnaps.
